I see it move a split-second before it falls, and I easily sidestep. The rock hits the floor and shatters harmlessly.
Then another one drops from above, much larger.
Kagaron pushes me out of the way, and the room shakes as the giant boulder hits the rocky floor without breaking. But the boulders arenât dropping like I would expect.
âTheyâre falling pretty slowly!â I yell over the noise of more rocks falling further away. âJust stay on your guard and get out of the way!â
âWatch the floor. It will start to break up.â Kagaron is still over by the wall, frantically breaking pieces off it and throwing them aside as if trying to dig a tunnel.
Heâs right, though. There are dark cracks in the floor, and more and more appear as the rocks fall from the ceiling. Iâm starting to understand how this will develop, because I once played a video game where something like this would happen. And looking closely, I can tell where the next rock will fall â the greenish lines next to it will flash right before.
âSoon we have to start jumping from rock to rock while theyâre falling,â I tell Kagaron. âUse them to stand on.â
He keeps working over by the wall, only moving out of the way when a rock comes down from straight above him. âCome here,â he calls over the din of falling rocks. âWe must stay together as much as we can.â
No need to tell me twice. I scurry over to him, and when I reach him the floor slowly falls away right where I was standing, leaving only a dark chasm. Another large piece drops away at the other side of the room. âSoon there will be no floor left to stand on!â I exclaim.
Kagaron keeps breaking rocks off the wall, and he has already made a hollow where I could probably fit if I curled up.
Another large piece of the floor drops away, and at the same time a large boulder falls right past me with curious slowness, almost wafting like a falling leaf.
I step up to its flat top as it passes and entrust my weight to it. It holds me, and I can already see the next boulder Iâm supposed to step onto.
âKagaron! Itâs easy!â
The green giant glances at me, and right then the floor disappears under his feet. He grabs onto the rock, then steps up on my boulder.
I point up and to the side. âThatâs the next one! Get ready!â
As soon as it becomes possible, I throw myself at the next falling boulder, pull myself up on the top, and then reach my hand out to Kagaron.
He ignores it and jumps up beside me. âThere is a system to it?â
âYes. Look! Thatâs the next one.â
âWe will keep doing this until we get tired,â he says darkly. âI suppose the gravity will be turned up gradually. It would be more entertaining.â
Heâs probably right. Right now, this game is easy, with boulders that fall slowly and are easy to get onto because I can jump really high and I feel light.
